CAAP Poverty Simulation
In this video participants describe CAAP's 2005 Poverty simulation. Community Action clients switch places with public officials, who now must find their way through an often indifferent system to meet their basic needs on very limited resources.You have the choice below of viewing this video feature in two lengths: a seven-minute introductory version (about 15 MG), or a 24-minute in-depth version (about 49 MG).

Grand Opening of Barber Shop and Salon
March 14, 2008The mayor, local media and members of the South Allison Hill community of Harrisburg gathered at the grand opening of the 'I Am That I Am' barber shop and salon. The barber shop and salon, located at 13th and Derry Street, is part of Mt. Pleasant Plaza.

Community Poverty Symposium
August 9, 2007
Over 75 people gathered in Pottsville to talk poverty. As part of their 2007 Community Assessment plan, CAAP member Schuylkill Community Action (SCA) held a Poverty Forum, bringing together government and elected officials, religious and business leaders, low-income clients and concerned community residents. Westmoreland Human Opportunities
Poverty Simulation
May 23, 2007
CAAP member Westmoreland Human Opportunities (WHO) held a poverty simulation at the end of May. Done in conjunction with Pittsburgh Social Ventures, the hour and half simulation gave middle and upper class participants an idea of what it is like living in poverty while raising a family.Nearly 50 participants simulated four weeks of living in poverty. They experienced the multiple barriers those living in poverty encounter while trying to provide for their family.

2006 Winter Conference on Policy and Legislation
CAAP's 2006 Winter Conference on Policy and Legislation was held on February 7-8, 2006 in Harrisburg, PA. The conference featured a wide variety of speakers, including Cheryl Davis, the newly appointed Director of the PA Dept. of Public Welfare's Bureau of Employment and Training Programs.

Celebrating 40 Years of Community Action
This video was developed for the 40th anniversary of Community Action. The speech was given by President Lyndon B. Johnson on May 22, 1964 during the commencement exercise at the University of Michigan. The "Great Society" address is considered to be among one of President Johnson greatest speeches.
